Presence

Have you ever had a family or close friends stay at your house?  While they were there you were excited and enjoyed spending time with them, but when they left, you felt the absence of their presence.  There was an empty place and a desire to see them again.  You could call, text, or email them, but it was not the same, there was nothing like being face-to-face in their presence.

There is something even greater happens deep inside of us when we encounter Jesus Christ and we have been in His presence. Something that no human being can ever touch or fulfill.

It is revealed to us, as God was speaking with Moses in Exodus 33:14 He said, “My presence will go with you and I will give you rest.” In Hebrew, my presence means “my face”. He was saying “My face will go with you”, meaning “I will be there with you, I will go with you”.

We see in Exodus 33: 9-11 how the Lord descended in a pillar of cloud and stood at the door of the tabernacle of meeting and talked to Moses. He talked to Moses face-to-face, as a man speaks to his friend. Moses encountered God face-to-face and became one who pursued God's presence. He did not want to be separated from Him. He longed to be with Him at all times.

Jesus came and fulfilled the promises of God’s presence by being with His people. He tore the veil of separation and became the blood sacrifice to reconcile us back into right relationship with our Father.  His redemption, cleansing power, and our repentance, we became the temple where His gift, the Holy Spirit, could reside. As we yield ourselves in worship before our King and seek His face, we too will encounter His presence, His face, as Moses did. He will reveal Himself in greater measures to us. Like Moses, we have access to Him.  Like Moses, our heart desires to talk to Him face-to-face as we would with a friend.
